2022/23 Europa League: Key Stats and Facts About The Arsenal’s First Game

[ad_1]

Arsenal are set for a return to European action after missing out last season. The Gunners are scheduled to visit Switzerland for a Europa League opening day clash with FC Zurich on Thursday (September 8, 2022). This game offers a chance for the North London club to redeem their image after breaking the English Premier League (EPL) winning streak at Old Trafford last weekend.

Arsenal have not met the reigning Swiss champions the past. However, the 2020/21 runners up have not lost any club from Switzerland. FC Basel, Grasshoppers and FC Thun are the three Swiss outfits that have encountered the Gunners and trio have all fallen to the 13-time English champions. Looking at squad, the entire hosts have a market value of €32.80m. Not less than members of Arsenal‘s team have individual market values greater than this. It is practically a clash between a giant and a midget in this context.

Considering current forms, the EPL side have only lost one of their last six matches. On the other hand, the Swiss Super League (SSL) have only managed three wins in as many games in all competitions ( drawn 1 and lost 2). There are already reports of mounting speculations over the latter following recent poor runs. Meanwhile, ace defender Ilan Sauter as well as striker Bogdan Viunnyk will be missing in action for the Zurich outfit. On the visitors’ side, Midfielders Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are still on injury list while Emile Smith Rowe looks doubtful.

However, the Gunners should watch out for Aiyegun Tosin. The Nigerian born forward gas scored 5 goals for the hosts this season. Former Glasgow Rangers defender, Nikola Katic may also pose some challenges to Arsenal forwards. Apart from these two, FC Zurich may not pose serious threat to their visitors.
