On Friday, President Muhammadu Buhari urged politicians from using the 2023 election campaigns to make aggressive remarks against their rivals.
In his message of friendship to Muslims on the occasion of Maulud, the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, the president made the request.
Additionally, he reiterated his dedication to holding free and fair elections in 2023.
Buhari said that the best way to honour the prophet was to imitate his lofty and brilliant virtues, adding that this was what Muslims should do.
Last month, the president asked officials to be cautious when making comments that can inflame racial tensions.
He said: “The prophet became famous for his life of humility, justice and fairness.
“The Prophet attracted people to Islam through personal examples of honesty, trustworthiness, justice, patience and tolerance.”
He noted that the Prophet exhibited a remarkable life of patience under provocation and honoured treaties with non-Muslims for peaceful coexistence.
“Honesty was one of Muhammad’s greatest virtues and every good Muslim should follow his examples,” Buhari added.
