Basking in the euphoria of the vote of confidence passed on him by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has visited the new acting Board of Trustee (BoT) Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara.
According to daily trust, Ayu, who was in company of other National Working Committee (NWC) members, pleaded with the former senate president to use his diplomatic skill to beg Governor Nyesom Wike and other Governors and aggrieved members of the party to sheath their sword.
Ayu said that the PDP needs the new BoT Chairman’s diplomatic abilities to navigate its dilemma because he is an elder statesman with vast experience.
In order to present a united front against the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the election, he thus pleaded with the incoming BoT chairman to employ his diplomatic skills to approach Wike and all resentful party members.
At the NEC meeting on Thursday, Wabara was announced as the interim Chairman of the BoT following Senator Walid Jibrin’s departure.
Ayu also informed Wabara of the party leadership’s decision to fly to Port Harcourt early the next week to meet with the governor of Rivers State for what he called “complete reconciliation.”
The Deputy Chairman (North), Amb. Iliya Damagun, will be leading other NWC members on the trip as he would not be available, he added, due to other previously scheduled engagements.
Ayu also expressed gratitude to Wabara for the confidence vote given to the party leadership by the National Executive Council (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BOT), noting that it had among other things confirmed the party’s cohesion.
“To read the outcome of yesterday’s meeting as one group winning over another will be incorrect,” he said. We are all successful.
“From what I can tell, the party wants to be together. Thankfully, with your extensive training as a diplomat, former representative, senator, and ex-president of the Senate who had worked closely with this party for a long time, you can play the role of a unifier even better.
“I’m asking you to take the initiative in reaching out to all of our members who are upset. To contact Governor Wike, all the governors, and anyone else who feels wronged and appeal to them or beg them to come back and join the PDP family, you have the full support of the candidate, myself, and the entire NWC.
