In the wake of the recent vote of confidence passed on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has come out to reveal what the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said to him shortly after he clinched the ticket in Abuja.

Speaking at the inauguration of a campus of Rivers State University in Ahoada east Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, Wike revealed that he was most aggrieved by the fact that Atiku went back on the word he gave concerning Senator Iyorchia Ayu when he visited him at his home in Abuja shortly after clinching the PDP presidential ticket.

Going further, the governor revealed that Atiku told him that Ayu must resign his position as PDP national chairman because the party’s constitution forbade both the presidential candidate and chairman from coming from the same region. He went on to challenge the former vice-president to come out and deny the allegation.

“When we finished our convention on a Saturday to Sunday, the candidate of the party came to see me in my house in Abuja on Monday around 10:30 am. And this is what I don’t like in this country. The candidate (Atiku) told me saying listen, I want us to work together, Ayu must go.

When I asked why, he said told me that when a presidential candidate comes from the north, the chairmanship must go to the South. I am now asking the candidate to implement what he told me. Have I committed any offense? I hereby challenge the presidential candidate to deny it,” Wike said.
