We’re Baffled Adamu, Ngige Remain In Office Despite ASUU Logjam – Rafsanjani

Auwalu Ibrahim Rafsanjani, executive director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC), lamented the management of the Nigerian educational system over the weekend for carrying on despite the shutdown of federal universities for the preceding six months.

Rafsanjani lauded ASUU’s strike as a real endeavor to advance higher education when he addressed the media in Kano at a training session on “prioritizing anti-corruption and accountability concerns before the impending 2023 elections.”

In Nigeria, universities are only shuttered for six months, and those in charge of education do not leave their positions, according to Rafsanjani.

“The quality of Education is the reasonable demand of ASUU,” he declared. Without a lab or a location for researchers to work, a university cannot exist. Universities conduct the majority of the research and develop the majority of the technologies today; we have stagnated. As a nationalist, you can’t expect the instructors to be disinterested.

“The last time ASUU enjoyed salary review was in 2009, and from 2009 to date, we have all seen skyrocketing prices, and for them to demand for salary review is legitimate because one school dropout who just so happened to be a legislator or political appointee earns a million naira, while a professor in the university learns N116,000,” the head of CISLAC lamented.
