A total of 5,222 Nigerians were violently murdered between January and June of 2022, according to the Nigeria Security Tracker (NST).

According to a report released on Saturday by the NST, a pet project of the US Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), non-state actors like as terrorists, bandits, kidnapping gangs, and other criminals were responsible for the majority of the fatalities.
According to data from NST, which monitors violence in various parts of Nigeria and conducts weekly surveys of local and international media, the North-East Boko Haram insurgency, the North-West banditry, the North-Central Fulani herdsmen violence, and the South-East secessionist uprisings all contributed to the deaths.

The figures as shown by NST, revealed that 996 Nigerians were violently killed in January, 765 in February, 1,214 in March, 917 in April, 594 in May while 736 were killed in the month of June, bringing the total to 5,222 in the first half of the year.
