‘We’ll not bring our nephews to run Nigeria’s govt,’ Obi’s running mate, Baba-Ahmed, aims dig at Buhari

Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, a vice-presidential candidate for the Labour Party, stated on Friday that if voted to power in 2023, the party would improve the nation’s educational system.

In a Channels Television programme called Politics Today, Baba-Ahmed said he liked Peter Obi, the LP’s presidential candidate, and the party’s guiding principles.

The economist was unveiled as Obi’s running mate on Friday.

He assured that his combination with the ex- Anambra governor would ensure prudent management of the country’s resources.

The former federal legislator added that if they were voted to power in 2023, they would not appoint their nephews to lead the Nigerian government, which many would interpret as a thinly veiled jab at President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mamman Daura, Buhari’s nephew, had a significant role in both his military government from 1984 to 1985 and his subsequent civilian government beginning in 2015.

Baba-Ahmed said: “What I bring to the table is prudent procurement and a pyramid of enlightenment. We will not bring our nephews to run the government. Nigeria’s money will not be wasted.”
