‘Buhari’s assent to Electoral Act aided my victory,’ Says Osun governor-elect, Adeleke

Ademola Adeleke, the newly elected governor of Osun State, gave President Muhammadu Buhari credit for his success on Monday.

Adeleke defeated incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola in the Osun State governorship election last Saturday, garnering 403,371 votes to 375,027 for Oyetola.
The governor-elect, who was a guest on the Channels Television programme Politics Today, claimed that the president’s approval of the Electoral Act 2022 was what allowed him to win the election.

President Buhari, who signed the Electoral Act in February, congratulated the elected governor on his victory and assured Nigerians that free and fair elections would take place in 2023 immediately after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the results.

The elated Adeleke said he was happy to hear from the president and highlighted the impact of the Electoral Act in his victory.

He added that the electoral law prevented desperate politicians from rigging the election.

He said: “I felt good hearing the presidential wishes. Democracy is at play here. I’ll visit and tell him thank you for the message. Most times, opposition doesn’t congratulate the winners. I have to give him credit for signing the Electoral Act. It prevented the rigging that happened four years ago.”
