The Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Anambra State, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi has advised striking lecturers to return to classrooms to save the university education from total collapse.
He argued that the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) protracted strike was unnecessary because the relevant authorities were unwilling to hear their requests.
According to The Nation,the Bishop stated that the existing administration lacked the capacity to perform beyond its current accomplishments in his speech on Tuesday in Nnewi, which was given in advance of the 2022 Diocesan Synod with the theme: “Understanding the times.”
The greatest course of action, according to him, was for Nigerians to practise patience while they prayedfully awaited the election of a better administration.
He said: “I think the best approach is to keep silent till and when another government comes in, then you can start talking again when those you’re talking to are not listening.
Experience has taught us that there is no point in beating a dead horse. The reality is that the current administration has failed. This is the basis of my dispute with ASUU. Why do you strike when the targets of your strikes don’t even know what you’re doing?
