APC’s Consolidation Of Shame And Insensitivity Vis a Vis 2023 General Elections.

By Ebor Cletus Ralph Jr.

On Monday, the 9th of January, 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari out of pressure, finally joined the campaign train of his party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It would have been more dignifying if he stayed aloof all through.

For a start, what is his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the race for? The Nigerian economy is in tatters. Nigerians have never been as disunited in its history as we are today. Corruption is in its all time high in all facets of our national life. The nation’s international image is abysmally low. The security situation as of today, ranks as one of the worst in the world. Poverty is in its all time high, to the extent that, we enjoy the unenviable record as the poverty capital of the world.

Sadly, the party under whose government and watch that, the nation came to this frightening commentary, still has the effrontery to field a candidate for the forth coming election.

Particularly sickening is the precarious security situation in the country. Yes, Boko Haram and other pockets of insurgencies predate this administration. But, their activities hit a crescendo in their time. Also, various separatists agitations across the country, took a violent turn in their time, for obvious that may not be addressed in details here.

In the early life of this administration, the government ordered that, every Nigerian, surrender his or her  personal weapon of defense to the authorities. Guns, both licensed and unlicensed, were humbly relinquished to the government.

Even local hunters gave up their dane guns. Little did they know that, they were giving up all that they had laboured for in life, including their farm lands, their ancestral homes and painfully, their own freedom. Before they knew it, they were at the mercies of some menacing strangers wielding AK47 and AK49. Across the length and breath of Nigeria, that is the position we all find ourselves today. Yet, the APC government carries on like, it’s just another day at the office.

The colossal effect of this is that, at home, no Nigerian is safe. On the road, you are at risk of being kidnapped and hidden in the bush for months. Even the sea and skies are far from being secured.

In 2022, a Kaduna bound train was attacked on the Abuja-Kaduna rail track with several people killed, wounded and scores kidnapped. It took several months for the government to secure the release of those were in captivity. How the government finally did it, is beyond anybody understanding.

Yes, Abuja-Kaduna rail attack happened. One would have thought that, the government of the day would learn a lesson. Non was learnt. A couple of days ago, the Igueben attack happened again. As you read this piece, scores of innocent Nigerians are held in the bush against their will. Their only crime is that, they attempted to board a train as a mean of movement. Ransom had been demanded. Like Abuja-Kaduna before it, the captives would be released and the shop would close. Good business at the end of the exercise…

The presidential election is next month. The candidate of APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants to consolidate on the achievements of President Buhari if he wins. What are the achievements, if I may ask? The conversation can start right away…

Accept it or not, next month’s election is a make or break one for Nigeria. We either get it right or we burst. Tinubu has started on a faulty foundation. You can’t possibly be consolidating on a messy environment. His gaffes all through his campaigns so far, tells of a man who has totally lost control of himself. He needs asylum, putting it mildly!

Buhari, a Fulani, can’t reasonably be handing power to another Fulani in the person of Atiku Abubakar. That would amount to the perpetuation of Fulani hegemony. Juxtapose that to the activities of Fulani herds men over the past seven years, Nigeria would have been official in a civil war.

Nigerian needs a breath of fresh air. That comes only through a Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed Presidency. Nigerians deserve to have their country back. We quickly need to move from consumption to production. We need a Nigerian who thinks Nigeria, not the tribe where he is from. We need a Nigerian who would empower every Nigerian irrespective of where he is from, not the one who would only be interested in enriching his Cronies and families. Finally, we deserve a Nigerian who can stop the current bleeding and grow Nigeria and Peter Obi has what it takes. If he hasn’t, he won’t at the center of every campaign thought process of the APC and PDP so far. Peter Obi is the candidate to beat and the earlier Nigerians get this into their psych, the better for Nigeria.
