ASUU: FG insists on 35% salary increment for professors

The federal government has insisted on a 35% increment in salary for university professors.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu made the intention of the government known on Tuesday in Abuja, while speaking during a meeting with vice-chancellors and other university stakeholders.

According to Adamu, the federal government could only afford to give lecturers a 23.5 percent pay raise, while professors will receive a 35% raise.

The minister also mentioned that President Muhammadu Buhari was against the government signing agreements that it would be unable to fulfil.

“The Federal Government can only afford a 23.5% compensation raise for all employee categories in Federal Universities, with the exception of the professorial cadre, who will benefit from a 35% upward review,” he stated.

“Going forward, the governing councils of universities to which such services are provided and the personnel who perform them shall pay allowances that correspond to ad hoc duties of the academic and non-academic staff as at when due. According to vanguard.
