ASUU strike: FG offers lecturers 23.5% pay rise, 35% for professors -Adamu

Except for professors, who would receive a 35 percent wage increase, the Federal Government has said that it can only afford to give lecturers of all stripes a 23.5 percent pay raise.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities is currently on strike, and yesterday Mallam Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, addressed the strike during a meeting with the provost and vice provost of federal universities (ASUU).

He continued by saying that moving forward, allowances for ad hoc activities performed by academic and non-academic people will be paid as and when due by the governing bodies of the institutions to whom such services were rendered as well as the staff members who performed such services.

He claimed that the 2023 budget would allocate N150 billion to the federal universities for rejuvenation, with the money being dispersed to the institutions in the first quarter of the following year.

Additionally, he said that N50 billion will be allocated in the first quarter of 2023’s budget to settle for professors’ accrued but unpaid academic allowances.

However, according to Adamu, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists all rejected the pay rise offer (NAAT).
