ASUU strike: We’ve done all we can – FG

[ad_1]

According to the Federal Government, all required measures have been taken to halt the present strike being carried out by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, stated during a meeting with the provosts and vice chancellors of federal universities on Tuesday at the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja that the government had previously tried unsuccessfully to get the teachers back into the classroom.

He asserted that he and countless other government representatives had spoken with the union numerous times in order to end the seven-month strike.

Given the circumstances, we did our best. After several tense meetings with representatives from every department of government and interministerial debates, we engaged with the unions. Personally, I tried my best to solve the issues at hand.

Wherever I could, I spoke with the unions, giving them data, stats, and my sincerest sympathies.

He said that, “for instance, I directly met with ASUU leadership in my residence, in my office, and at the ASUU Secretariat on numerous separate times,” in addition to such formal contacts.

The Minister went on to stress that any outrageous demands must be turned down, per President Muhammadu Buhari’s instructions.
