Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has committed to continue the struggle for the restoration of a strong party structure that will permit an equal representation of the interests of the North and South in the Peoples Democratic party’s national leadership.
The governor said that the PDP’s constitution was being violated and that the South was being severely wronged by the current leadership system, which sees the North hold both the national chairman and presidential ticket seats.
Wike made the comment at the Rivers State University’s Ahoada Campus and Staff Inauguration on Thursday, which was presided over by Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State.
Wike claimed that the South’s interests were not taken into consideration by the PDP hierarchy, especially when choices had to be made.
Governor Wike claimed that the Board of Trustees Chairman’s resignation was a diversion since Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, had informed him that Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, had to resign.
