Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has explained why Atiku Abubakar, the PDP‘s presidential candidate, and Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, have angered him. According to the report, Atiku’s nomination as the PDP’s presidential candidate marked the beginning of the party’s internal conflict.
After Delta state governor Ifeanyi Okowa was named the party’s vice presidential candidate, things took a turn for the worse. The governor of Rivers State remarked that it was astonishing that Ayu and Atiku had broken their pledges. The National Executive Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given Senator Iyorchia Ayu a vote of confidence, indicating that he would not be stepping down anytime soon.
Wike stressed that Ayu should act honorably and quit so that a person from the South can take over.
