Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has disclosed the reason he is angry with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, flag bearer Atiku Abubakar and the party’s national chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
Naija News reports that the crisis in the PDP began after Atiku emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.
Wike asserted that there had been shenanigans during the presidential primary in order to favour Atiku.
Things started to go wrong when the party chose Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to be its vice presidential candidate.
Even though Wike had said he wasn’t interested in the vice presidency, he nevertheless insisted that Ayu leave if the party was to find harmony.
Ayu stated that he will hold onto his post till the end of his contract.
Why Atiku and Ayu Have Offended Me
Speaking on the party’s crisis, Wike disclosed that it had been agreed that Ayu would step down if the party’s presidential candidate came from the south, allowing a southerner to take charge, according to The Nation.
According to him, Atiku visited Ayu after winning the PDP nomination and promised to step down in accordance with the party’s charter in exchange for Ayu’s support.
The governor of Rivers State remarked that it was astonishing that Ayu and Atiku had broken their pledges.
