Let’s start with the benefits of sleeping on your stomach that has also been proven by me as a stomach sleeper;

1. Prevents snoring – if you often snore either occasionally or constantly i.e. almost every night, then you can benefit from sleeping on your stomach. Sleeping on the stomach goes a long way to prevent snoring in people. This is one of the notable advantages of this sleep position.

2. Prevents sleep Apnea or reduces the chances of experiencing breathing difficulties while sleeping – sleep Apnea is one of the primary causes of breathing problems while sleeping, but sleeping on the stomach helps prevent or better manage the problem of sleep Apnea. So you have something good to benefit from sleeping on your stomach. But it does come with some side effects or risks and they are as follows;

1. Causes spinal cord pain or back pain – sleeping on the stomach puts pressure on the spine thus raising risk of pain in the back when you wake up. Personally, I always wake up with a form of back pain and for some sad reasons I have gotten used to this early morning back pain.

2. It can cause neck pain and also highly unhealthy for pregnant women. Sleeping on the stomach means you would have to turn your head to the side since there is no way of comfortably breathing through the pillow, this causes the neck to lose its normal shape thus causing sprain and strain that may lead to pain in the neck later. Additionally, it is not healthy for pregnant women.
