Bruno Fernandes reveals he urged new Wolves signing Matheus Nunes to join him at Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes has heaped praise on Wolves’ new addition Matheus Nunes, but admitted he wanted the 23-year-old to join him at Manchester United.

Nunes became Wolves’ record signing earlier this week when he joined the club for a fee of £38 million.

He has been a regular for Sporting Lisbon in recent years and already has two games and a goal under his belt in the Primeira Liga this season.

23-year-old Matheus Nunes recently joined Wolves for a club record £38 million

His Portugal team-mate Bruno Fernandes said he urged the midfielder to join Man United

Speaking to Eleven Sports, Fernandes said of his Portugal team-mate: ‘I’ve already talked to him. I’ve already told him that he should have come here and not there. I’m very happy for him.

‘He’s going to experience the best league in the world, he’s going to have players beside him with a lot of quality, like Ruben and Joao, who will teach him a lot. They are two experienced players.

‘Matheus is doing incredible things. He has an incredible scope for growth, he is a humble, hardworking kid and I’m sure he will probably explode in the Premier League and will show his qualities.

Bruno Lage’s side has struggled for goals this season and will hope Nunes can add creativity

‘Because for his qualities Matheus was not made for the Premier League, but rather the Premier League was made for Matheus.’

Wolves have struggled for goals this season as Bruno Lage attempts to mould his team into a new system.

The creative presence of Nunes in midfield could be vital if they are to improve on last season’s 10th place finish.
