All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode has said Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has implicated top stalwarts of the opposition party.
In a statement on Sunday, the ex-presidential aide made reference to a comment by Dino Melaye, a spokesman of Atiku Abubakar’s campaign team.
Melaye was reported by Fani-Kayode as saying, “All the PDP Governors spent money at our party’s National Convention to elect Senator Iyorcha Ayu as National Chairman.”
According to daily post, the former Kogi Senator’s admission was referred to as “a terrible and serious situation” by the former Aviation Minister.
It was “a public confession of a criminal offence made by a prominent individual within the PDP cabal,” as FFK, better known, put it.
He claimed Melaye acknowledged that Waziri Atiku, the PDP’s presidential nominee, also came into power through “corruption and criminality.”
Ayu’s triumph, according to Fani-Kayode, was “the result of money inducements, monetary gifts, and the illicit use of public monies.”
He referred to Ifeanyi Okowa, the vice presidential candidate, and former Senate President Atiku as “illegal and products of cash and carry elections.”
According to the statement, one of their own has now accused and indicted the whole PDP leadership structure.
“I thus demand that the Federal Government and the security agencies invite Senator Dino Melaye to provide additional details on the financial contributions made by each PDP Governor to Ayu’s “election.”
Iyorcha Ayu and the entire PDP NWC should be detained and charged with participating in criminal activity, benefiting from the crime of corruption, and being accessory after the fact, he urged.
Fani-Kayode requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declare Atiku and Ayu’s elections invalid.
He maintains that Melaye’s comments indicated PDP officials corrupted the party and electoral processes, breached the law, and demonstrated their incapacity for holding political office.
No one is above the law, and those who engage in criminal activity during political conventions should be held accountable, FFK reminded the authorities.
According to the statement, “some of us will have no choice but to take this matter up in court” if security agencies fail to take prompt action on the situation.
