Chelsea close to confirming Thomas Tuchel’s replacement

According to journalist Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard, Chelsea is close to hiring Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter to lead the team.

Thomas Tuchel was fired by co-owner Todd Boehly after the Blues had a rough start to the season, and the team is now searching for a new manager.

Even though the choice to fire the person who helped the team win the Champions League less than 18 months ago was unexpected, Chelsea seems to be moving rapidly.

According to Kinsella, Potter has been contacted by the west London club about the position, and a hiring decision might be made as soon as today.

He adds that Mauricio Pochettino, who has been unemployed since PSG fired him in the summer, is a candidate for the position.

According to Sky Sports, Brighton has authorized the 47-year-old Englishman to speak with the two-time European Champions.

After leading the Seagulls to their best-ever league finish last season, Potter is regarded by many as one of English football’s most promising managers.

With four victories in their first six games of the season, Brighton is now fourth in the Premier League.

The South Coast team has received plaudits for their superb hiring decisions and appealing brand of football.

Graham Potter may or may not be the ideal fit for Chelsea, according to Jamie Carragher.

Carragher thinks that Potter should exercise caution when choosing his next club because the Blues have a reputation for firing managers quickly.

When asked about Potter possibly coming to Stamford Bridge, Carragher told Sky Sports: “Potter has been labeled a future England manager.”

“It’s a very cutthroat club, and I’m not convinced [Graham Potter] is the ideal match – perhaps Chelsea is indicating they want to do things differently in the future by putting a coach in charge instead of a manager or by changing how they operate behind the scenes.

“But if I were Graham Potter, I would find it quite difficult to think that they will act differently. They recently fired a manager after six games of the season.

“It’s a significant advancement in his managing career, and Chelsea is still a top club. Even though they are still the world champions, you worry for Graham Potter that, like every other Chelsea manager over the past ten years, he will be replaced within a year if he doesn’t start seeing results straight away.”
