Community groans over bad Delta roads

[ad_1]

Abala community in the Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State has decried the deplorable state of the roads in the area which it said had cut it off from other parts of the state.

The Odogwu of Abala community, Chief Christopher Iwale, told Sunday PUNCH that the challenge had also created economic and educational problems for residents of the community.

“As I speak to you now, there are no access roads in the area to link other parts of the local government council, let alone the entire parts of the state. There are no quality educational institutions, portable water, health centres, and other facilities in Abala.

“The community is the worst in Delta State in terms of infrastructure. The residents in the area have never had any opportunity to attend secondary schools. The primary schools that exist in the community are more or less dilapidated,” Iwale added.

He further lamented that the community had been abandoned by the Peoples Democratic Party-led state government despite contributing to its successes.

Iwale, therefore, appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other elected and appointed officials in the state to come to the aid of the community with the provision of infrastructure.

He added, “The community contributes meaningfully to the state food basket as cassava, plantain, rice and corn are grown in large quantities to meet the needs of the people and by extension, other parts of the state, but they cannot be moved to other parts of the state due to poor road network.

“We contributed to the success of the Peoples Democratic Party in the elections held before now, but the community is never carried along in the scheme of things.”
