COVID-19: ABUAD herbal drug undergoing clinical trial, says CMD

The Chief Medical Director, Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital, Ado Ekiti, Dr Kolawole Ogundipe, has said the herbal drug, ABUAD Herbal Virucidine Liquid, produced by the hospital for the management of COVID-19 is going through a proof of clinical trial.

The drug which is “an immune booster and anti-oxidant for coronavirus and other viral infections, can also be used as an anti-inflammatory agent,” Ogundipe said.

The CMD spoke in Ado Ekiti on the exploits of the four-year-old medical facility, which he said had within the short period stood tall as a center of excellence in health care delivery and medical education, and as well bridging the critical gap in health care investment in Nigeria.

He said the herbal drug produced by the Pharmacy Department of the hospital in conjunction with ABUAD Research Centre, had got NAFDAC’s nod and listing for production and sales. It is currently going through a proof of clinical trial for use in the management of COVID-19 by the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research”.

Ogundipe, who said AMSH had assumed the position of a leading center for kidney, heart, and vascular surgery among others, said “With the giant leaps being made by this hospital in terms of proficiency and quality medical services, Nigerians do not have reason to travel abroad for medicare.

“AMSH is working tirelessly to halt outward medical tourism, which is draining several billions of naira from Nigerians yearly, by acquiring the best equipment and an array of medical professionals that can handle any complicated situation.

“We appeal to our people, particularly the political class that they have no reason to travel abroad for medical services,” he said.
