Everton 0-0 Liverpool

Everton and Liverpool drew an exciting Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Tom Davies struck the crossbar for Everton in a game that swung from end to end, while Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz did the same for Liverpool.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford wonderfully pushed Nunez’s effort onto the bar and also denied Liverpool replacement Roberto Firmino three times, while Mohamed Salah struck the post again in the dying seconds.

Conor Coady, a former Liverpool defender, believed he had broken the stalemate when he turned in debutant Neal Maupay’s effort, but the goal was disallowed after a long VAR intervention.

In addition to Coady’s disallowed goal, Everton forced two excellent stops from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, denying Maupay and Dwight McNeil, whose effort was deflected into the top corner.

Jordan Pickford has seldom made a mistake for England but is always under fire.

Gareth Southgate overlooks it, and Pickford is proving himself at Everton.

Pickford made a series of superb saves to keep Everton level, but Frank Lampard’s side had other strengths.

He showed excellent athleticism to deflect Nunez’s shot over the bar in the first half, amazing reactions and agility to deny Firmino three times, and then dived at his near post to tip Salah’s effort off the post with almost the final kick of the game.

After a career-best effort, Pickford deserved to win.

Chelsea 2-1 West Ham

Kai Havertz scored a late winner as Chelsea beat West Ham, but David Moyes was outraged with a “scandalous” decision to disallow a 90th-minute equalizer.

Maxwel Cornet scored following Edouard Mendy’s parry, but referee Andrew Madley judged Jarrod Bowen fouled the Chelsea goalkeeper in the buildup.

Michail Antonio scored after 62 minutes after Mendy failed to clear a corner for the Hammers. The first half saw plenty of home control but no chances on goal for either side.

Ben Chilwell equalized for Chelsea after a record summer of spending and Wesley Fofana’s debut.

It produced a frenzied conclusion, with Cornet’s header hitting the post and Havertz scoring from Chilwell’s cross.

Cornet believed he had equalized with a disallowed strike.
