Chioma Onyekwere, a Nigerian athlete, has expressed her happiness over her gold medal triumph at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Tuesday night.

The current champion of the African Games and African Championships made history by being the first Nigerian woman to win gold in the Discus Throw competition at the Commonwealth Games.
The 28-year-old overtook England’s Jade Lally, who had held the lead since the competition’s opening throw of 57.33 metres, after throwing 61.70 metres in her fourth attempt.

Onyekwere had a 55.82m opening distance. She then threw 56.42 metres in the second round, fouled on the third try, and then swung the discus to a season-best personal mark of 61.70 metres as she proceeded to finish first and earn the event’s gold medal.
