Edo 2024: ‘No one District has the monopoly of producing men with capacity and skills to govern a state’ – Osazua Ivbaze.

I have read some articles with disparaging content against the clamour for Edo2024 with Esan as driver. Most of the write-ups are by persons of Edo South extraction.

Their argument is that there is no zoning in Nigerian Constitution.
They also argue that Obaseki has set a very high standard in governance which requires that we go for men with capacity from anywhere in the State, to succeed him, rather than banking on what they call “entitlement mentality”

The selfishness and greed in man become easily discernible when the demand for fairness is the subject for conversation.

How hypocritical it is for people who condemn Northern political elites for seeking to dominate power in Nigeria will suddenly become hostile towards others demanding fairness in smaller geopolitical space of Edo , in which they claim numerical superiority and advantage.!!

When it aims to benefit them, they do not talk about constitution. It is not as if these people pushing anti- Esan sentiment do not know that using the pages of the constitution to respond to the demands for fairness, equity and justice, is bad presentation. They know it is sheer sophistry.

The most stable democracy in the world, Britain, has no written constitution, but relies on conventions and common sense to drive governance.

In the recent presidential election, the birth of G-5 and eventual humiliation of PDP was failure to zone to the South.

Buhari had the power and advantage of incumbency to have kept power in the North after his 8 years. Was the Nigerian Constitution not there when he and the APC allowed power shift to the South– which eventuated Tinubu as President- Elect!

If the constitution is all what it takes to ensure equity in diversity, then the ongoing efforts by APC to decide on which zone the Senate President should come from, is ridiculous.
But the party is wise and doing the right thing.

Zoning is an inevitable ingredient in the task of promoting fairness in diversity. It is sheer common sense.
The soil of collective advancement and harmony in a polity is better enriched by the manure of fairness, not sophistry-driven argument that is intended to erode inclusion.

What those behind Edo2024 with Governor from Edo Central are pushing is far removed from the circle of entitlement mentality. It is a call for harmony, understanding, peaceful coexistence and justice among brothers and sisters bound together by common history.

No part of the family, called Edo State should be allowed to feel a sense of exclusion and marginalization in the distribution of power and political opportunities among the three Senatorial Districts in the State.

Edo Central has men and women, just like the other two Senatorial Districts, who have more than enough capacity, competence and character to build on the development of previous Governors.

No one District has the monopoly of producing men with capacity and skills to govern a state.

In the larger Nigeria space and in diaspora, there are great Esan sons and daughters excelling in various fields of human strivings.

Let’s join hands and give it to Edo Central this time around.
