Ex-governor Aliyu says Peter Obi would not run for president in 2023, but recommends him for 2027.

Former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu raised doubt on Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s chances in the 2023 election on Monday.

According to Babangida, who appeared on Channels TV’s Political Paradigm, Nigerians may not be prepared to elect Obi as President next year.

Many in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were pulling for the former Anambra State governor to be Atiku Abubakar’s running mate next year, according to him.

“Peter Obi is a good friend of mine and a previous member of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum,” Babangida added.

“A fantastic individual. In terms of the president, I believe he will build a name for himself immediately. However, he may only be able to do so in 2027 or 2031. But what about 2023? It’s far too early.

“Even if the young people go for him, his name isn’t going to sink everywhere else.” I’m not sure Nigerians are prepared for him as a presidential candidate right now.

“As a Vice President, he would have been fantastic.” Many of us wanted him to be Atiku’s Vice President once more.”
