The journalist had described how he had been detained in Cairo, Egypt, “by command of the Nigerian Government.” 

After spending 24 hours in prison at Cairo International Airport, Mamu, who claimed to be going to Saudi Arabia for a smaller Hajj, is apparently being sent back to Nigeria. 

On the journey back to Nigeria, the publisher assured the reporter that nothing unlawful had been found on him. 

He asserted that the Egyptian authorities had informed him that they no longer had a reason to hold him in detention.

Actually, I was heading to Saudi Arabia to conduct the Umrah with some of my family members as I was traveling to Cairo, Egypt. My 24-hour imprisonment at the Cairo International Airport was authorized by the Nigerian government.

I was not harassed at the Nigerian Airport prior to my arrival there, where the security personnel informed me that the Nigerian Department of State Security had given them orders to arrest me (DSS). My family and I were held for the entire day at the Cairo Airport, he claimed.

My family and I had just gotten on the next flight to Kano to go back home. The DSS personnel would probably be waiting for me at the Kano airport right now (Wednesday). I have nothing to fear from them and nothing to hide (DSS). I pledge that I have no apprehension of them. He asserted that he and his family spent the entire day detained at the Cairo Airport.
