Ezekwesili speaks on Osun election, charges Nigerians on political participation

by Ebor Cletus Ralph Jr

Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister of education, expressed satisfaction with the calm manner in which the governorship election in Osun State was conducted on Saturday.

Ademola Adeleke, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was proclaimed the victor of the election held across the state’s 30 local government areas on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Sunday.
He received 403,371 votes, defeating All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Governor Gboyega Oyetola, who received 375,027 votes.

The smooth operation of the exercise was a confirmation of Nigeria’s improvements in the handling of elections, according to the founder of the FixPolitics Initiative, who responded to the development on her Twitter account on Sunday night.

She, therefore, charged Nigerians to get more involved in the political processes in the country.

Ezekwesili wrote: “Voting has zero value in our elections until the voters at a polling unit act collectively to make sure their votes are accurately counted and immediately transmitted electronically.

“We’re making progress in elections management. Technology is our game changer.

“PVCs have zero value until their owners show up at the polling unit and actually vote. So get your PVC and make a determination to vote with it. Your PVC is not a mere ID card.”
