At least five persons were reportedly killed by gunmen who were thought to be herders on Wednesday in the Anter Mbalagh hamlet in Makurdi, Benue State.
Residents told journalists that several others managed to flee to nearby settlements, while an unidentified number of individuals were also hurt in the attack.
In addition to destroying homes, the assailants also set fire to other structures.
Col. Paul Hemba (ret. ), the governor’s special adviser on security issues, also verified the incident.
But he claimed that the incident resulted in the deaths of two persons.
