Gridlock as tanker breaks down on Anambra road

[ad_1]

Commuters, motorists were stranded in a heavy gridlock on the Onitsha-Owerri Road, Anambra State, on Saturday.

The heavy traffic started around the Amanator axis of the ever busy road as a result of a broken down tanker, due to the worsening condition of the road.

The Amanator lane of the road had long been overtaken by refuse over the years, thereby causing motorists coming from the Oba section of the road to make an interchange at that point.

But due to the broken down tanker at that section, which covered the interchange area, a heavy gridlock has built up for both the Owerri-bound and Upper Iweka-bound motorists.

The gridlock caused by the tanker, which broke down at about 10:35am, as gathered, had extended gone past the Lord Chosen Church area and heading towards Upper Iweka.

The vehicles going inward Oba area from the Upper Iweka met the traffic opposite the Lord Chosen Church while those coming from Oba, met the traffic at the AP Bus Stop, as of the time of filing this report at about 2:50pm.

Our correspondent observed that commercial buses, tricycle operators and other vehicles faced on-coming vehicles, thereby complicating the traffic congestion.

And vehicles who tried to wade into the muddy waters were trapped while boys who helped in rescue operations make quick money from the situation.

Commuters were seen alighting from the vehicles and trekking to their various destinations.

No traffic official from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Transportation Management or the police were on the ground to help control the chaotic situation.
