GW5 FPL stats: Managers take risk with Haaland

Following his Gameweek 4 hat-trick, more than a 3.7million Fantasy Premier League managers have trusted Erling Haaland (£11.8m) with the captaincy.

Manchester City host promoted Nottingham Forest, who have conceded 79 shots this season, the most of any side.

Meanwhile, Haaland has been presented with 10 big chances, the most of any player.

But as we enter a more congested period of the campaign, the big question is: will he start?

Pep Guardiola has stated that Haaland will be rotated when the schedule is busy and talked up Julian Alvarez (£6.2m) in Tuesday’s press conference.

Much more likely to feature from the off, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is in second spot.

The Egyptian blanked in Liverpool’s 9-0 win over AFC Bournemouth at the weekend and is among the most-sold players this Gameweek.

However, his excellent home record against Newcastle United suggests he can swiftly make amends.

Salah has scored in each of his five appearances against the Magpies at Anfield, averaging 9.2 points per match.

Gabriel Jesus (£8.2m) once again features among the top three armband picks, as he has done in every Gameweek so far this season.

Arsenal host Aston Villa with Jesus looking to turn his promising underlying stats into points. His tally of 14 shots in the box is five more than any team-mate.

Joining Salah in being shown the exit doors are Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.2m) and Joao Cancelo (£7.1m).

Zinchenko missed Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Fulham with a knee injury, while Cancelo has produced just a single point across his last two outings.

The No 1 transfer target ahead of the deadline, Pascal Gross (£5.8m), was unable to repay the faith of his 764,000+ new owners as he blanked in Brighton & Hove Albion’s 2-1 defeat at Fulham.

Nonetheless, Gross remains the best-value midfielder in Fantasy, having returned 6.4 points per million spent.

Appealing fixtures against Leicester City and AFC Bournemouth over the next two Gameweeks give him the opportunity to bounce back from Tuesday’s disappointing showing.

Luis Diaz (£8.1m) has been the next name on the shopping list.

Snapped up by more than 737,000 managers, the Colombian will be looking to add to his tally of 23 points over his last two home matches.

Across the season, Diaz ranks joint first among Liverpool players for shots on target, with five, level with Roberto Firmino (£8.0m).

Haaland completes the top three signings, with over 707,000 acquiring the Norwegian. Their attention will now turn to the Man City teamsheet.
