How Ronaldo Caused Financial Problems for Juventus

[ad_1]

Italian giants Juventus sold Cristiano Ronaldo in the final days of the 2021 summer transfer window, but the club is still feeling the effects of his stay after all.

Ronaldo joined Juventus in the summer of 2018, as the club hoped to end its Champions League drought – the club hadn’t won the competition since 1996.

The Portuguese star had a brilliant career at Real Madrid, where he became the all-time leading scorer and took four Champions League wins between 2014 and 2018.

Juventus spent big to get the competition’s all-time top scorer, but he failed to bring the European Cup to Turin during his three-year stay and the Bianconeri ended the partnership in 2021.

Ronaldo causes problems for Juventus:

Manchester United seized the opportunity to sign their former player in the last days of this transfer window, but after one season Ronaldo wants to leave them too, because he wants to play Champions League football.

Juventus paid €117 million to sign Ronaldo and offered him a contract worth €30 million per season – a huge gamble for a player they hoped would bring them instant success.

Although he helped them to five trophies – two of which were championship titles – the return was not what they had hoped for, which hurt them.

According to RMC Sport, the club’s loss is between €240 and €250 million for the 2021-22 season, which Juventus believe is partly due to the large contract they offered the Portuguese star.

For the second half of the campaign – between January and June this year – the losses amount to €132 million, a worrying figure for the Bianconeri.

Juventus’ board will assess the accounts in September and for the fifth year in a row they will be negative, which is a harsh reality for the Italian record champions.

Juventus were forced to sell Ronaldo as his grip on the top of Italian football diminished and Manchester United were willing to take a chance that didn’t necessarily work out as a whole.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals for them last season, but United only finished sixth in the table and were without a trophy, and the player subsequently said he wanted to leave the club this summer.
