The Nigerian Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) has said that the terrorists responsible for the deadly terror attack on parishioners at a Catholic church in Owo, Ondo State, may never be caught by the federal government.
In a statement released on Sunday, HURIWA National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s government of a cover-up, alleging that ISWAP was to blame for the attack, despite the fact that some survivors said Fulani terrorists were the masterminds.
HURIWA also chastised the President for failing to pay a visit to the site of the Catholic church attack in Ondo State, as well as for failing to attend the victims’ funerals.
Onwubiko went on to say that the fact that Muslims make up the majority of the Security Council under the Buhari administration, as well as the unfortunate fact that all of the heads of internal security institutions like the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration, Nigeria Customs Service, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Intelligence Agency are Muslim Northerners, mostly Fulanis, makes this government practically impossible to run.
The denial of Ondo State Governor Mr Rotimi Akeredolu over the Federal Government’s accusation that the Islamic State West African Province was responsible for the terrorist assault plainly demonstrates that Buhari’s government was involved in a cover-up plot, according to the statement.
“The citizenry must demand to know why the Central government makes no effort to punish terrorists, but each time these terrorists attack soft targets, the Federal Government goes into overdrive, aiming to sow confusion and lies in order to conceal the identities of the killers,” it said.
“We must remember that Ondo State Governor Mr. Akeredolu, who stated the Federal Government’s judgement was rushed, said he took it with a grain of salt, adding that ISWAP members were known to take responsibility for their attacks.”
“What all these shenanigans by the Federal Regime reveal is a government set on disguising the genuine perpetrators of this crime against humanity, who were hitherto identified as Fulanis, the same ethnicity as President Muhammadu Buhari, by the victims who survived the horrible attacks.”
“The unfortunate reality is that the President has a reputation for shielding his relatives from all manner of allegations, even when the Federal Government’s claims are backed up by forensic investigations.”
According to HURIWA, the best way to combat these terrorists is for President Muhammadu Buhari to rearrange the service chiefs, especially the heads of the internal security agencies, in order to change the holders’ character from Northern Fulani Moslem to Federal Character.
