The Vice Chairman of the North South Power Station, Olubumi Peters, has revealed that 24 babies have been delivered by Internally Displaced Persons at the company’s facility.

Peters who made the revelation during the 2022 NSP annual flood stakeholders sensitisation forum in Minna on Wednesday, stated that the pregnant women were those who fled banditry attacks from Galadima-Kogo and environ.

The vice chairman who was represented by Abdullahi Hassan, Consultant on Corporate Social Responsibility to NSP, said the 24 babies born at the facilities were delivered by some of the thousands of IDPs from Galadima-Kogo and over 30 communities in Shiroro local government of Niger State.

“Nineteen pregnant women among the IDPs delivered 22 babies in the company’s hospital and all their medications and treatment were paid for as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility”.

He added that the company would continue to place a high value on the safety of lives and property of host communities.

He also said the dams were not yet filled to the point of overflowing but it is pertinent to sensitise the host communities on likely flooding.

“The dam is not filled yet, it is still receiving water and storage before we spill water, we do alert communities upstream and downstream and when we spill, we are very conscious of people living downstream and we do what is called step release of water.

“We do all these things to ensure that downstream people are safe and water release from the dam reservoir is part of safety measures because if the water is not released when the reservoir is filled up, the dam system and structure can collapse,” he said.
