The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has assured that there will be no threat to the 2023 general elections in the country.

The reassurance from the IGP followed after security threat analysis was carried out using global best practices.

The IGP said this during the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) in the United States of America and during his meeting with Mr. Todd D. Robinson, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, U.S. Department of State, as part of events rounding off his attendance at the event.

The police spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said, “During the meeting, discussions were centred around enhancing support for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) training and capacity-building programmes, especially the training of tactical units deployed in the North East and other conflict areas or theaters across the country.”

“Discussion on the ongoing election security management training across the six geo-political zones in preparation for the 2023 general elections and assistance for police recruit training in modern policing themes, such as forensic search or investigations, human relations, and cyber security”

“The Assistant Secretary applauds the NPF, under the leadership of the IGP, for the good work and feats recorded, even as both leaders discussed ways of increasing assistance and support for the NPF.”

The IGP has aimed to achieve improved policing services and release an enviable policing system to the country. He has continuously had meetings with individuals and groups with better solutions, ideas and support-base for the accomplishment of his agenda of a modern NPF.

The IGP, who is said to return to the country on Sunday (yesterday), also discussed his administrative focus on improving training and retraining of police officers and men, as well as improvement of cutting-edge technology for better crime prevention, protection, and apprehension of suspects with concrete, credible, and corroborated evidence.”
