EX IGUEBEN GRAMMER SCHOOL, IGUEBEN, STUDENTS FLOAT AN OLD BOY’S BODY ON WHATSAPP.

For the pioneers of this great school, Igueben Grammer School, Igueben, may not mean the same thing that it was, when it was established in 1963 or when they schooled and had their fun in the place. Before the then government came up with the idea of a name change for the school in the 70s, it was aptly and deservedly known and addressed as St. Benedict Boys High School, SBBHS, Igueben. What a name! However, the era that didn’t meet this name, could have decided not to be bothered by a mere nomenclature change, but, to settle for the qualitative learning and positive character environment that it engendered.
To the the glory of God, the school, no doubt, had gone a long way in fulfilling these goals. Great men of stature had been produced from this prestigious school and they are making their marks all over the world. The question that agitates the minds of many is, where is the position of SBBH or IGS, amongst the committee of high schools in Nigeria today?
All over the world, People glowingly talk about Kings College, Lagos, Arewa College, Kaduna, St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, Dennis Memorial Grammer School, Onitsha, Edo College, Benin City and a host of others famous schools. Who or what is behind the enduring names, these schools had sustained all the long years of their existence till this day? It is the dogged and determined efforts of the old boys in collaboration with governments, to keep them relevant. Before now, gists flew from several corners of the globe about the existence of SBBS or IGS old boy association. While not trying to dismiss this, the question that readily comes to mind is, how embracing was it and what was the success story? Topic for another day, though!
Accept it or not, this present experiment is by far the most audacious attempt to put together a body, that has the potential of bringing all sets together and every old boy, irrespective of his social cum economic standing. We can do it, yes, we can. The only possible hindrance is us. And it can only take us to deal with it, should it come. Meanwhile, may God bless the guys behind this.
