Auwalu Ibrahim Rafsanjani, the Executive Director, Civil Society Legislative and Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, has said that it is baffling that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, are still occupying their position, despite the closure of tertiary institutions in the country for over 6 months.

The Executive Director declared the industrial action embark by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, as a legitimate step to revamp university education in the country.

He said it is only in Nigeria that tertiary institutions are closed for 6 months and those in charge of education are not resigning.

The CISLAC boss said the union legitimate demand is all about quality of education because they cannot be a university without a laboratory or facilities to carry out research.

According to him, it is legitimate for the university lecturers to demand salary review because the price of things have skyrocketed since their last salary review in 2009.

He also said a professor who has spent 30 years in the system earns N416,000, while a legislature who is probably a school dropout in the House of Representatives earns N17m excluding other illegitimate earnings while those in the Senate earns N19m excluding other illegitimate earnings.
