Jibrin’s resignation not enough –Ohuabunwa

[ad_1]

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sam Ohuabunwa, has said the resignation of the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Walid Jibrin, is not enough to placate aggrieved members in the southern part of the country.

Jibrin had said on Thursday that he resigned to ensure the party’s victory in the 2023 elections.

There were insinuations that Jibrin’s resignation was part of moves to pacify aggrieved southern members calling for the removal of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

Ayu however received the backing of the party’s National Executive Committee to continue as the chairman. A total of 397 members of NEC, including the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, passed a vote of confidence on Ayu at the 97th NEC meeting.

Asked if Jibrin’s resignation would pacify the southern members calling for Ayu’s sacking, Ohuabunwa in an interview with our correspondent said, “No way! But Walid Jibrin has shown himself an honorable man who is sensitive to the diversity of our nation, wants to reconcile the party and improve the chances of the party in winning the presidential election. What the South wants is inclusiveness, equity and fair play.”
