Kounde appeared to be close to joining Chelsea, much to the dismay of Blues boss Thomas Tuchel, but Barca, who have a long-standing interest in the Frenchman, gazumped the Premier League club.
The 23-year-old had to wait for his club debut since the club’s financial problems and issues with the pay cap made it difficult for Barca to recruit new players.
Kounde, who made his professional debut on August 28 against Real Valladolid and won 4-0, noted that Xavi played a big part in his choice to sign with Barca.
“Barca is still a club that can draw anyone,” he added, adding that management was also important.
He gave me a lot of confidence, and I like his approach.
Kounde, one of the seven players the Spanish team brought in during the summer transfer window, made his second game for Barca in the 3-0 victory over Sevilla on Saturday and contributed two assists.
Robert Lewandowski, Marcos Alonso, and Raphael have also joined the group.
