Six new National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission have been sworn in by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The brief swearing-in ceremony took place in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, ahead of the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Senator Ahmad Lawan, and Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila were also present at the inauguration of the Commissioners.
The Secretary to the Government, Mr. Boss Mustapha; the President’s Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd); and some of the Ministers due to attend the FEC meeting were also present at the ceremony.
Mohammed Haruna (Niger State), Mrs. Agbamuche Mbu (Delta), Okeagu Nnamdi (Abia), Major General Abubakar Alkali (Rtd.) (Adamawa), Professor Rada Gumus (Bayelsa), and Sam Elumeku (Bayelsa) were among those sworn in (Ogun).
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, told State House Correspondents shortly after the swearing-in ceremony that Nigerians can expect the best from INEC now that it has a full complement of commissioners.
