JUST IN: Oyo Assembly approves Lawal as new deputy Gov, right after it sacked Olaniyan

Adebayo Lawal has been chosen by the Oyo State House of Assembly to serve as the new Deputy Governor of the state.

This occurred shortly after the former governor, Rauf Olaniyan, was impeached by the House.
The House removed Olaniyan, an Igboho native, from office on the advice of the panel of inquiry.

The nomination was approved by the parliamentarians after Governor Seyi Makinde forwarded the name of the incoming Deputy Governor to the House.

According to majority leader Sanjo Adedoyin, the nomination was appropriate.
Lawal was the Chairman of the State Housing Corporation before being appointed. And once served as the state’s attorney general.

Some weeks ago, Olaniyan asked the State High Court, Ibadan, to restrain the State House of Assembly from going ahead with the impeachment plot against him.

In a letter of impeachment served the deputy governor by the House, the lawmakers accused him of financial recklessness, gross misconduct, and insubordination among others.

In his response to the allegations, Olaniyan accused the lawmakers of carrying out Governor Seyo Makinde’s agenda.
