Katsina police rescue PDP assembly candidate from terrorists

Officers of the Katsina State Police Command, on Saturday night, rescued the Kankia House of Assembly candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general election, Ibrahim Tafashiya, from terrorists.

The terrorists had earlier that night abducted Tafashiya in the Kankia Local Government Area of the state.

The police were alerted of the abduction, prompting the Divisional Police Officer for Kankia, Superintendent Ilyasu Ibrahim, and his team to block the exit route of the terrorists and engage them in a gun duel following which Tafashiya was rescued.

The Command spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development on Sunday.

“It’s true our team rescued Tafashiya from the terrorists and he has been reunited with his family,” Isah added.

It was also learnt that terrorists stormed the residence of the Registrar of the Isa Kaita College of Education, Salisu Gide, which was located in Kankia, and abducted him and his wife.

The police officers were able to rescue Gide that night, too, while efforts were still on as of Sunday morning to rescue his wife and other victims abducted by the terrorists.

The police spokesman revealed that the terrorists had been sighted somewhere around the Batsari Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, terrorists reportedly struck early Sunday morning at Sabuwar Kwata in the Jibiya Local Government Area of the state and abducted a man and two kids.

The incident reportedly occurred few minutes after five in the morning.
