More than 50 days after abduction, a nursing mother and her two sisters are still languishing in terrorists’ den over inability to pay N50m ransom demanded.
The family of the victims while raising alarm over the matter in Kaduna on Sunday, told newsmen that they were traumatised following the abduction the sisters by bandits.
Malam AbdulWahab Yusuf, who spoke on behalf of the family, urged both the Federal and Kaduna State Governments to come to the aid of the family and ensure their daughters, including the nursing mother and her baby, were released unhurt.
Bandits were reported to have invaded the Mando general area in Igabi Local Government Area of the State and abducted the three sisters, including the eldest one who was heavily pregnant then, on July 17, 2022.
She gave birth while in the terrorists’ den.
The development, Yusuf said, had thrown the entire family into confusion over the matter.
He notex that there was no way the family could raise the N50m being demanded by the terrorists as ransom to free the nursing mother and her two sisters.
The distraught father said, “on July 17, 2022 in Mando, on the outskirt of Kaduna, the bandits broke into the house. I ran out and jumped the back fence but my three daughters were kidnapped and taken to the forest.
“They were in the family house, tending to their sick mother. Their mother, who could walk unaided before their capture, has now been confined to the wheelchair due to the trauma of her children’s abduction.
“Initially, the bandits demanded for N140m but now they have reduced the ransom to N50 million. The family has been adversely affected by the trauma.
“My wive, who was able to walk unaided before the incident, now use wheelchair. We just carried out a surgery on her. I have not been myself. I cannot sleep. Once its night, I don’t know how my body feels.”
Also speaking, Kabir Yusuf, elder brother to victims, said the family had pleaded with the bandits over the N50m because “we told them that we are poor”, but that the bandits warned that “if we don’t have the N50 million ready, we should not call them again.”
He appealed to the Federal and State Government and well meaning Nigerians to assist the family in securing the release of their sisters currently in captive.
He said, “We are appealing to the Federal and Kaduna State Governments, charity organisations, philanthropists and well spirited individuals to assist us in securing their release.
“We don’t want anything to happen to them, if anything happens to them only God knows what effect it would have on our mother, who is now on wheelchair because of their abduction.”
On his part, husband to the nursing mother, Mohammed Alabi said his wife gave birth at the kidnappers’ den on August 2, adding that they were yet to receive any medical attention.
“The baby used to cry from night till morning inside the forest. We learnt they were being maltreated, flogged. We are all dying emotionally and physically. We are appealing to whoever God will use to secure their release, to assist us” he added.
