The Lagos State Government has disclosed its plan to partner with the private sector on the smart city project through the use of innovation and technology.

The General Manager of Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency, Bisoye Coker-Odusote, disclosed this on Tuesday, during a press briefing in Lagos.

She said, “Our third annual stakeholders’ conference will hold on October 4 to set forth the government’s infrastructural approach in a bid to transform Lagos state into a smart city in Africa.

“This year’s theme is centred on the transformation of Lagos city to a smart city hub. The government has been very passionate about the smart city initiative which is the unified fibre duct infrastructure project and it will involve private partnerships and run for 25 years before the government takes over.”

Coker-Odusote added that the project would extend to the state biometric system and digital cabinet.

“We will look at the applications that will sit on this project like the biometric system, Lagos ferry, digital cabinet and other areas of performance in line with our core objectives. We want Lagos to be the Smart City hub of Africa and 80 per cent progress has been made so far,” she said.
