Two men, Joseph Badmus and Ibrahim Ayodele, were on Tuesday, arraigned before Chief Magistrate Mrs. B. O. Osunsanmi of the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over an alleged procurement fraud to the tune of N100m.

The defendants who pretended to be businessmen were facing charges for obtaining by false pretence and fraud.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendants, under false pretence, collected the sum of N1.5m from one Elizabeth Agunbiade with the promise of helping her to procure an N100m bank draft.

Akeem said there was an agreement between Agunbiade and the defendants to facilitate the procurement in order to improve her business.

However, it was alleged that the defendants had not fulfilled their end of the agreement despite collecting the service fee of N1.5m. Akeem said Agunbiade had yet to receive the bank draft and the N1.5m.

It was gathered that the defendants committed the offences on July 21 in the Oshodi area of the state.

The offences were said to be contrary to Sections 314 and 325 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Osunsanmi granted the defendants a bail of N300,000 each with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till September 28 for Mention.
