‘Military’s misguided response fueling IPOB agitation,’ Says Kanu’s lawyer, Ejimakor

The arrested Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, criticised the military’s approach to the country’s separatist movement on Friday.
The lawyer argued that the civil unrest in the South-East was caused by the military response to IPOB’s agitation for the Biafra Republic in a statement released in Umuahia, Abia State.
A few weeks prior, the Federal Government had been requested by the United Nations to release Kanu without conditions.
The activist, who was hauled back to the nation in June of last year, is currently on trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja for an alleged treasonable offence.
In November, he will appear in court once more to continue his trial.
Ejimakor said: “The problem is not the separatist agitation, IPOB or Nnamdi Kanu. The problem is the misguided militarist response to it, which, instead of containing it, is actually validating the agitation.”
He also renewed the call for the IPOB leader’s release.
“It is referendum that made Atiku Abubakar a Nigerian and which may also make him President.
“It’s through a referendum that the Midwest region came into being in 1964. This is all within Nigeria, not counting the many nations that were created through referendum, such as Eritrea, Kosovo, South Sudan, etc.”
