Mistakes You Should Avoid Making When Lifting Weights

[ad_1]

Regardless of your gender or age, lifting weights is a good approach to increase your resting heart rate, reduce body fat, improve balance and motor coordination, and aid joint stability. For a total body workout, it is suggested to lift weights for 20 minutes to 30 minutes 3 days a week.

According to Cleveland Clinic, when you are lifting weights, avoid making the following mistakes;

1. Holding your breath: Holding your breath while doing anything strenuous is a thing most of us have encountered. However, this act is potentially harmful. Holding your breath as you are lifting weights can result in a rapid increase in your blood pressure. In some instances, this can trigger a hernia and in more extreme cases, you may even lose consciousness. The best way to ensure you breathe steadily during strength training is to breathe out when you put the most effort, and breathe in when you get back to your original resting point.

2. Failing to rest between workouts: As you start strength training, you will see that your muscles get sore after each session, at least you should encounter some muscle soreness if you are pushing your muscles to grow. This soreness your muscles experience is a good thing. Because as you lift, you are triggering microscopic tears in your muscles and damaging the tissue, and that is what builds muscle. But it is sacrosanct to allow for proper rest between workouts. That will make those tissues time to recover before exercising them again.
