MNU 0-1 RSD: Real Sociedad defender admits playing against Antony was “Very Difficult’

Real Sociedad defeated Manchester United 1-0 due to a controversial penalty call against Erik Ten Hag’s men.

The spot kick, however, was only significant because the Red Devils were unable to score at the other end.

Real Sociedad worked hard to defend well and keep a clean sheet despite United’s relentless probing and lack of clear-cut openings.

The Spanish team was happy to win against the Manchester based outfit for the first time ever and secure all three points.

Aihen Muoz, a defender for Real Sociedad, told AS after the game that his team “was really courageous and aggressive up front.”

However, the Spain international was quizzed specifically how he felt about playing defense against Antony, a winger for Manchester United.

“Covering these players is really difficult,” Muoz said.

After a few occasions of leaving the defender on his back foot, Antony was eventually taken down by the frustrated defender.

Jadon Sancho was brought on to replace Antony by Manchester United soon, but that change of tactic failed as well.

Real Sociedad’s head coach, Imanol Alguacil admitted that they had been somewhat lucky, but he also believed they deserved it.

“You have to have a little luck, but you had to try a lot of things,” he said to AS.

Sheriff Tiraspol defeated Omonia in Cyprus, 3-0, in another Group E match. Next week, Sheriff will play Manchester United in Moldova.
