MUN 3-1 ARS: Why VAR Was Right To Rule Out Arsenal’s Goal In The First Half

[ad_1]

Arsenal were looking to make it 6 consecutive wins when they travelled to Manchester to take on Man United at Old trafford.

The first half was very pulsating and Arsenal had initially took the lead when Martinielli scored. But the goal was ruled out after a careful check from VAR. Man United then responded and took the lead through debutant, Antony and he saw his team led 1-0 at the break.

Arsenal got a well deserved equaliser when Bukayo Saka slotted the ball past De gea in the 60th minute. Man United retook the lead when Fernandes sent Rashford through on goal who slotted the ball past Ramsdale into the net. Erik ten Hag’s men sealed it when Rashford sealed the win with a tap in as Arsenal’s unbeaten run came to an end.

This game would have been a different story if the goal Martinielli scored in the first half was allowed. It looked like a foul but taking a close look at the image, it was a foul on Eriksen from Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard.

As a result, VAR made the right decision to rule out a goal because Odegaard used his arms to push Eriksen and not his body. However, the Gunners were understandably furious with that decision and it surely worked against them and contributed to the defeat to Man United.
