Southampton winger Nathan Redmond has completed a transfer to Turkish side Besiktas.
Redmond, 28, has signed a one-year contract with the Istanbul-based team, ending a six-year stay on the south coast.
Redmond, who joined the Saints from Norwich City back in the summer of 2016, has recently seen little playing time and has been deemed surplus to requirements.
He has only made 15 appearances for Southampton in 2022, including just one late replacement appearance during a 4-1 loss at Tottenham on the first day of the new season.
The youthful player, formerly of Birmingham City, made 232 appearances for Southampton, scoring 30 goals in total.
Redmond, 28, left the club on good terms, according to Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, and can now make an impact in Istanbul. Redmond recently sent a lengthy Instagram message to fans thanking them for their support.
The Southampton manager remarked, “It is a good change for him; after six years, it was perhaps time to have something new for him.”
We enjoyed a great time here together for about four years, with many wonderful and some less-than-ideal times.
I did, however, have a wonderful relationship with him up until the very end, and even then, he shown professionalism in such circumstances.
At a press conference, Hasenhuttl said, “I am very looking forward to him playing there. For us all, life changes and we move forward.”
It’s a significant adjustment for him, but I believe he made the right decision.
Dele Alli, a former England star who joined Besiktas on loan from Everton during the summer transfer window, and Redmond will now team up.
On Sunday, the former Tottenham player scored in just his second game for his new squad.
Along with former Burnley striker Wout Weghorst, former Tottenham player Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, former Everton forward Cenk Tosun, and West Ham loanee Arthur Masuaku, he also joins the Besiktas group of players with Premier League experience.
